BUDGET WISELY...!

Because of the complexity and magnitude of a kitchen remodel, many people make the mistake of not incorporating some of the major aspects of a kitchen remodel into their budget and then short themselves on their cabinet allowance. Keep the following in mind when budgeting your kitchen...

The NKBA (National Kitchen and Bath Association) says that on a typical home, the value of the cabinets should be roughly 4-5% of the value of the home were it to be sold. So, a $500K home would warrant a cabinet budget of roughly $20-25K. Remember, this does not include counters, appliances, back splash, plumbing, electrical, lighting, or other aspects of the kitchen.

The NKBA also says that if you choose to spend more than the suggested 5% of home value on your cabinets, you are likely to not recoup when you sell. However, anything less than this will ensure a higher and higher return on your investment.
